Dear Members, If you have been treated with clozapine (Clozaril) for your Schizophrenia, on the basis of your experience:
- Would you recommend clozapine to other members for the treatment of their Schizophrenia?
- What were the adverse effects caused by clozapine? How severe were these side-effects?
- How much did one month's supply of clozapine cost?
Before you write your review, please use the Yes-No-Unsure buttons on the bottom of this post to indicate if you would recommend clozapine to other members. Phil Long M.D. Administrator |

Hi Phil Our Daughter is taking 400grms of Clozaril every night..She's gained so much weight (which has her so very depressed)..she sleeps long hrs...12hrs every night...sometimes more. She has NO motivation..Still has the Voices...But excellent in every other area...We are torn, because we are with her 24hrs a day, and i feel i need to speak with the Dr after finding this excellent forum....She was on Respiradol but flatlined....But this drug??? The jurys still out. Except for the Voices, she is pretty much on the ball. I am 61 years old and my husband is 64 years old...She is 28 years old. The Drooling is bad. Weight gain huge Appetite is huge (we have to sleep sometimes, and cannot always monitor her eating. Also she drinks so much water (blood tests all fine) And we live in Australia so our Health Care System, i feel is wonderful. One months Supply of Clozaril costs her $4.95........How lucky are we. Thankyou Phil Jenny and Bruce

My son Adrian has been taking clozapine for 8 years now. He says it has been the best medication so far. Has also taken resperidol, and olanzopine. He has what he would call minor side effects, eg excess salivation particulally a night, weight gain. |

I am currently on clozaril although i think i might be taken off of it soon. I have tried olanzapine, aripriprazole, quetiapine and am curently on clozapine. Unfortunately the clozapine just isnt working...just like all the other drugs.
I hate having my blood taken every week and starting it knocked me out. I dribble excessively and the weight gain sucks. It makes me so tired too. I have to get at least 12 hours sleep to feel rested.
Maybe my opinion would be better if it had worked. So dont rule it out...it might work for you. |
