Dear Members, Many psychiatrists are becoming aware of how the pharmaceutical industry has purposely misled them and their patients. As psychiatrists, we know that medication plays an extremely important role in relieving the suffering of mental illness. Research now has shown that there are minimal differences between the effectiveness of psychiatric medications in the same class. For example, there is little difference in effectiveness between the different antidepressants. Likewise, there is little difference in effectiveness between the different antipsychotics (except clozapine). Unfortunately, the pharmaceutical industry is doing everything in its power to deceive psychiatrists and patients into falsely believing that one drug is superior to another identical drug in its same class. This deception is costing patients literally billions of dollars. Please read the following articles that describe this problem. Suggested Reading Phil Long M.D. Administrator |

Wow, I really can't believe that I found this info on this site. It's about time. The hypocrisy is becoming unmanageable by both Big Pharma and Psychiatrists who do their bidding without question. It's like Eli Lilly on one side and patients on the other. Not a good place to be.
Lilly is settling another lawsuit for a record one billion. 1-it was bought by George Bush's Justice Dept. not by class action. 2-I feel confident the originating attorney has been replaced. 3-the evidence will probably be sealed by the court. 4-the drug in question is Zyprexa -the testing and marketing of same. 5-how badly do you have to screw up before the Bush Justice Dept brings a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical corp?

Antidepressants tested on children and teens:
Overall, researchers analyzed 12 studies (including the infamous Paxil Study 329, led by Brown University's Martin Keller) which included 2,862 patients (median age 12.3 years) who were randomized to either an anti-depressant or placebo. The medications in those 12 studies were Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, Effexor, Remeron and Serzone. Taken together, 49 percent of patients responded to placebo while 57 percent percent responded to an anti-depressant. That makes for a global effect size of 8 percent, meaning a doctor would have to give anti-depressants to 10 kids before seeing a response in one of them.
As stated below, the placebo effect in this study is kinda ridiculous...and no, he is not a Scientologist.
