I was on Zyprexa for about two years. I gained 30lbs each of the two years. By the time I was finished with the drug, I was 198lbs. I am only 5'4" and used to weigh much less. sigh. It WAS a good drug, you guys are right. The weight didn't really come off. I went from a size 16 to a size 13, but then, maybe because I'm hitting that time of life, the weight levelled off. On top of that my delusions came back. But when I first started it, it made me feel soooo good. I felt like I was getting my life back. I was taking 5 courses at university in my 4th year, and getting good marks. But then, everything just crashed and I had to stop taking it. I was starting to pray to Jesus everytime I couldn't answer an exam question and that's just not right in the head, not the way I was praying.
Once I took loxapine, my world cleared up. My functioning returned to some extent. Then with fluanxol (which I think is not available in the states, I could be wrong), I am doing much better. Vicky

I was on Zyprexa n put on four stone, also became a zombie when awake which wasnt very often was taking 15mg day. Now changed to Quetiapine lost four stone but still a zombie, on 500mg day. Not sure if running the world is better than being a zombie... |

On Zyprexa I was so functional and managed to take 5 courses during college and kept up with that pace for 2 years. However, I was gaining a lot of weight and as a result, I developed an eating disorder. I managed to stay relatively thin and had a really good last 2 years of college. After I graduated, I went off of it b/c it was causing more harm than good. Now, I'm pretty slim and on Loxapine and Lithium for scza. I don't think that Olanzapine is a good drug b/c many people develop diabetes from it because of the amount of weight that people put on. Thanks for letting me share this. Love, Cindy |

Jet,
One stone is 16lbs? yah that sounds like what happened to me. I gained +/- 60 lbs. I hear what you're saying. I hope quetiapine is a better drug for you? How long have you been on it? Does it improve with time?
I was a zombie for the first year until my pdoc put me on piportil and prozac. that helped. I found caffeine made me alert but too much made my mood and relationships sour. I went one year without caffeine and I was a total zombie, but at least I wasn't going through lows.
hope this helps.

Sorry been away awhile, yah know being crazy n stuff. Hmmm Quetiapine way better 4 weight, got down 2 300mgs a day, hmmm started having hallucinations not doing so gr8 now. Dont want it to be increased due too banging heart n dizzy spells, leading to collapse in hospital; to be honest finding all mind drugs a bit of a nightmare. If they control unwanted sypmtoms seem 2 end up a zombie, n if they dont work end up in my 'crazy land' again.Argh. Just wish p doc wouldnt give me that 'youre crazy' 'Im not really listening to youre side affect' smile.............

I have been on olanzapine for about 2 years now. I feel as though it is not working as good, although I may be to blame. You see, the medication instructions say that I should take this drug at about the same time every day. I have failed to do just that. I am sometimes up to two hours too late each day, taking my dose. |

I don't think missing your dose time by two hours should cause that much of an impact. I used to take it just before bed which cause a variation in the time by up to two hours and I was ok. |
