My best meds for controlling psychosis were/are loxapine and fluanxol(what i'm on now) and zyprexa while it lasted. For mood, zyprexa and prozac. For anxiety, ativan/a bit of clonazepam. I really like the meds I'm on now, though I do get paranoid from time to time.
My worst meds: Manerix and paxil for depression. For weight control, the worst was Zyprexa. For psychosis, seroquel and risperdal. Risperdal made me feel like I had no thoughts at all, but made me angst-ridden still in some strange way; seroquel just made me sleepy and relapse after a short while; it didn't keep the psychosis at bay. Manerix was bad for mood. Didn't work at all. If anything it made things worse. Paxil was too mild, but had a way of clinging to the brain so that withdrawal was very very difficult. If it wasn't for the weight gain and relatively short psychosis control (2 years for me) I'd say zyprexa was the best med. Vicky

Best meds: Lamictal & Ritalin. Worse - all the others I can't recall after so many, many years of looking for a combination to work. The few I can recall: Prozac, Wellbutrin, Zoloft (sent me into mania), Effexor, Tegretol, Lithium, Depokote, Geodon, Topomax (sent me into Paronoid Zichzo), Cymbalta, and many more. Why won't they just stick with what's working? |

I have been on a lot of different medications since I have been first diagnosed with schizophrenia.
The best medication for my psychosis is probably Zyprexa, so far. My sympotoms are under control now, for the most part. The weight gain is the only problem with this drug. I have managed to keep it under control.
The worst medications for my psychosis were seroquel and risperdal. The seroquel made my oversleep and barely touched the psychosis. Risperdal was the first antipsychotic that I was prescribed, and it made me gain about 50 pounds! It also sent my prolactin levels up ten times higher than what it should be at. |

my best medication (anti-psychotic-wise) is stelazine. not only am i good mentally but i've lost 20 pounds since the start of july 2006 which is quite the feat b/c i've been overweight for about 10 years, since i was on olanzepine for only 1 year. my best anti-anxiety med was clonazepam (i take 1.5mg at bedtime) and this has been like a miracle for me. i haven't had a perplexity attack for 3 weeks since i increased it to this dosage. before, i was on 1mg and was having attacks weekly. the worst anti-anxiety med was lorazepam. it would prevent some attacks but could never calm me down once i had them. the worst anti-psychotic was seroquel. i had a relapse on that one but at the time we didn't know that we were on the wrong dosage b/c the manufacturers had made a mistake in their studies about what was the correct dosages to take and publish. in terms of anti-depressants, i was only on prozac, ever. and it didn't do anything for me , at all.
