Hi skye 2008,

Your remarks are welcome.

I personally don't know the answer to what you have posted. Hopefully, you will receive additional replies from other members, who has a more accurate knowledge of statistics.

One thing I can say, here in the UK., we have a well documented system within our National Health Service who is obliged by statutory law to provide us with as accurate as can be, statistics.

Yours in forum friendship, David

my child was diagnosed one year ago and his symptoms were hearing voices, seeing things and paranoia. He thought everyone was out to get him. my heart breaks for him and some days I can see he feels lost. They are about to increase his meds and that worries me. He's not very social and I feel like this is a very important of growing up and learning to interact with others. I hope this helped you some.

Hey Theresa,

sometimes adjusting medication is nescessary. if your son is still experiencing symptoms then this is likely the best thing for him right now. He will possibly be on medds for the rest of his life because while this illness can be managed it can't exactly be cured. The best thing you can do for him is let him know you will always be there for him to love and support him when he needs it and to encourage him when he shows positive interests. Relapses can happen but they don't have to happen often as long as your son stays on his medication and develops a bond of trust with his shrink and with you and whomever else is in his life to support him. Support from family and friends is really key to recovery also taking things one day at a time.

It took me a few years to make peace with my own diagnosis but knowing what I had and knowing I could live a normal life despite it made all the difrence. I've lost a friend to mental illness because he spent so much time un-diagnosed that when the doctors finally told him what was wrong he didn't take his treatment seriously and eventually he gave in and died.

I know that's not comforting but I want you to know that it doesn't have to happen like that so long as he has a loving supportive network of people all around him and so long as he knows that staying with the treatment will make him well. Also don't make a big deal about his illness, chances are that he will do that well enough on his own, he knows what he has the important thing for him to know is that it's actually easier to manage schizophrenic symptoms than it is to control diabetes the only thing is that he has to stay on the treatment and he's only ging to do that by his own free will.

Good luck and God Bless.

it's the least I could do. Besides that's what this community is here for. A lot of people don't understand this illness and it is very hard to describe because there aren't a lot of things one can compare it to. anyway Good luck and keep oming back here everyone is really supportive and it's often an insightful and sympathetic place to be
