Hi
I became psychotic twice as a result of taking so-called chinese herbs whilst on antipsychotic medication.
Some of the so called safe herbs contain steriods, amphetamine-derived substances etc which guarantee a relapse. |

Hey Synapse,
I agree with you. The FDA refulates and monitors new drugs, and medications, but not chinese herbs. So. you never know what you are getting, their potential side effects, or their possible negative interactions with other meds.
Nice to meet you. Welcome to MT.

herbs like anything else can contraindicate pharmaceutical medications. I've used homeopathic remedies in the past and had to avoid all mint and coffee (not from the caffeine but the oils from the beans) because of the contraindications of these herbs w/the remedy.
St. John's wort contraindicates a lot of things amazingly, depression medications prescribed by a dr, is one of them.
If you're not going through a trained professional, you should always consult your doctor or research ... there is TONS of information over the internet to discover if any particular herb you are wanting to use has contraindications to what ever else you may be taking.
You didn't indicate what herbs you used, whether you researched to see if it was safe to take with your anti-psyhotic pharmaceutical drug/prescription etc ...
Taking herbs while your taking anything prescribed by your dr. is like taking anything else, you should always 'make sure' it is not going to negatively affect you or the prescription or anything else you are taking, before you take the herb(s). |

I was told not to take Chinese herbs to treat our illness. It was no recommended by our ex-pdoc and can produce some weird side effects as it is not regulated on how much of each active ingredients is in the Chinese herbs.
Anyone else had experience with Chinese herbs treating our illness?
Would love to hear from you. |
