Simple Question:
Has anyone else been placed on Risperdal(risperidone) for Major Depressive Disorder with Psychotic features as opposed to Schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder?
If so, was it helpful? |

ah, I hope the risperdal worked well for you. From what I've gathered, including on this forum, it's right for some, and wrong for others.
For me, it did nothing but side effects.
I was also on Seroquel 100 mg, that did nothing but knock me out at night for the first week.
And I was on 20mg of Prozac, which I guess is kind of a low diagnosis. This did not enhance my mood, but it did give me sexual disfunction So I have not had the best experiences with meds, but people mainly tell me it's because I didn't stick with it long enough.
But this is part of the reason I question my diagnosis, because while on two anti-psychotics I still had homicidal thoughts. But as soon as one started to come into my head I was just like "I'm not going to think about it anymore." And it would go away. That worked for about three weeks, it got too tiring. But that makes me think I had something like automatic negative thoughts and not psychosis. but maybe I'm way off base. who knows? really, who does? |

100mgs is kind of a low dose for seroquel. But then I find it didn't really work for me at all. But when I was on Olanzapine - it made an immediate impact in about a week - and then a much bigger impact after 3 months.
Have you tried googling homocidal thoughts to read more about it? |

hercules21,
yes I have been reading a lot about homicidal thoughts. Homicidal ideation is not a disease in itself, and I don't persoanlly think my situation corresponds with MDD w/ psychotic episodes.
Automatic Negative Thoughts are also not a disease, but rather something that you cope with sans medication. However, out of the 13 doctors and therapists I've seen , not one has ever mentioned Automatic Negative Thoughts. It seems like they want to pretend they don't exist. |
