I've always been fascinated with illicit drugs and what they do to your mind and body. This one, however, is definitely the work of the Devil. I've read about and watched TV about this drug. It can hook you after only one try. It's cheap. People lose weight with this drug. It can be manufactured in any kitchen or car. People on meth can stay up for weeks at a time. It is the hardest drug to kick. There's a show called "Intervention" and it's on every Sunday night around 9pm pacific time on A&E. Once you've tried it, you're a slave to it. I've seen people with their eyes burnt out. You think that there's bugs crawling all over you, hence, there are a lot of scabs and scars all over your body. I'm sorry, I can't talk about this drug for now. I'm just so sad to see Meth take over and own your mind and body. It's so sad. Cindy |

I tried that once and didn't like it.
But I've used different types of speed. Benzidrine, Dexidrine,(Yes, that is the same dexidrine they give kids for ADD. They give kids speed for ADD) meth amphetamene... Don't anymore though. I was first introduced to speed at a ballet summer intensive. And yes, it worked miracles until I fainted from overwork. And of course, you can't eat or sleep on it either. I blame this drug more than LSD even for making me sick. There are some drugs I don't blame at all but these two caused me some trouble.
This was the fault of the teachers as much as the students. They all knew were were taking Benzidrine and Dexidrine but didn't say anything. If anything, they almost encouraged us to do it, but in a veiled way.
The reason tey give kids dexidrine or any kind of amphetamine or speed as an Rx is because of the intense and powerful focus and concentration the drug gives you. It really does concentrate your thoughts and actions (it also makes you talk and think a lot) but the thing is, once you stop taking the speed, you become even more sluggish and abstracted than before. So you're not doing anything to get there. You're being taken on the journey by a drug.
It took a lot of this drug, used here and there (I was never a regular user of speed. Too freaky) before it started making me somewhat psychotic. Once that happened, I just sort of avoided it. I'd done it for two days straight (not crystal, just crank - meth amphetamine) and it was making me hallucinate and trust the hallucinations. So I was like "Later dudes" and totally left it alone, didn't even look at it again.
The worst thing on this drug too is the damage it does to your heart and liver. There have been kids who have had heart attacks from abusing their dexidrine. Kids. The heart pumps faster (you know, that feeling of elation and total focus) and it can become irregular. And the liver! It's a toxin and of course your liver has to overwork to get it out of your body. Like booze but I think it's harder on the liver than booze... Dr long help me out here.. is that true what I just said?
I never found any kind of speed to be physically addictive but certainly it can get a grip on your head and not let go. Gets to the point where you dont' want to get out of bed if you don't crank up because you're sooo tiiiirrreedddd. This is not only because you've become used to speeding, it's also because in taking it so much, you've exhausted your body! So if there are any speed users out there, don't get out of bed that morning!! Stay in bed a few days! Sleep it off and leave it be!! Don't keep taking it. It's really bad for you.

Wow, Pea, I didn't know that you tried it. I'm so glad that you weren't addicted to it. I hope that you're ok now and off drugs of any kind. That stuff has always scared me. I'm totally fascinated by it, but I know that I'll never try anything, including pot. I used to smoke in college, but I quit after 2 years. I used to drink in moderation, but none anymore. It just doesn't work well with the meds. It takes a lot of guts to admit all of that. I'm proud of you, Ella. Love, Cindy |

I've taken speed too, I loved it. I love the feeling you get in your body when you are high. Didn't make me psychotic. Didn't get addicted to it either. On the other hand I got offered some cocaine last night and said no.

I've done a LOT of drugs in my day... usually the experiences were fine and I didn't have any negative effects. And I didn't really overuse with the exception of one specifically (actually, thats a lie. Two if you count cannibis. I used to smoke a little too much marijuana. Which doenst always go well for people with mental illness. Myself included)
I really stay away from it these days. I just don't feel well when I use things and I tend to have a tough time recovering from a late night where any kind of drugs are involved. So I just avoid the scene now. And I appreciate my body a lot. I don't want to do anything else that might hurt it. And although there is ample evidence that certain drugs dont' hurt you, well, that may be true but NOT doing them CERTAINLY doens't hurt you :)

My brother Jimmy got ahold of some crystal meth. He really liked it. For short money, he stayed high for two weeks. If any ever came around again, he would have liked to do it again.
Now, of course, he's a sober head with me and our other brother. We three each have double digit sobriety.

You should watch the movie "SPUN" if you want to see a really crazy movie about some crazy meth heads. |

hey stigmastopper! It's me, pea. I just changed my name for awhile
Listen, one thing you can say is to ask them "is it worth it? I mean, maybe nothing will happen to you. Maybe all your experiences will be positive but then again, maybe it will wreck your life. Is it worth it? Because once you make that decision, you'll never go back. It will change you. Even if you never do it again, you'll never be the same" Or tell them to just come to me. I have been suffering for going on ten years because of this crap.
Also tell them to watch the Basketball diaries, if they are old enough. That is fairly realisitc. Keep them away from trainspotting. That movie isn't realistic at all and just glorifies that kind of lifestyle. It's not that the movie is bad, it's just not a real representation of what a life of drugs can do to you.
let me think. I'll come up with something a little more persuasive.
love elfie/ella
PS Don't worry stigma. I have learned my lesson and now that I am medicated properly, I don't feel the need to hide from my tormented brain anymore. And life is so much better. |

This is for Stigmastomper. Try this for your nieces. Take them for a drive to the downtown east side and show them the drug addicts and the filthy buildings and hotels and tell them they are going to end up there if they are using or going to use drugs. That should scare them straight. |

Crystal meth is the most dangerous drugs of all. It is considered deadly and hard to cure. Among the many illegal substances used today, crystal meth abuse is the most difficult to treat because it's highly addictive and the "wall" period is longer than other illegal drugs. People become addicted to methamphetamine because it promotes weight loss and heightens the stamina and the brain activity.
Studies show that crystal meth treatment is only effective once the patient him/herself decides that s/he wants to get better. This is why it's very important to spot the problem during its early stages
