I've read some of the diagnosis for scizophrenia and I have a question if some can answer.
What is this "running comentary voice". I not sure if that is what I experience or not. I'm wondering if some can help explain this to me.
I do not here this voice from the outside (although I occasionally do here wierd voices from outside), but it seems like my voice or what could be my voice... documenting/explaining/commenting/rationalizing on every single thing I do all the time... the only way to get it out of my mind is to sing a song or something and that is only temperary. Is this what the "running comentary" means in the schizophrenia diagnosis or no?
Occasionally I also here the same voice or is it two really ( I don't really know) arguing in my head. So I have a discussion in my head or well sort of anyhow. There is a discussion going on in my head. A question and answer or sometimes an arguement.
I'd be glad to here what people think or know about this!
Thanks |

yes, anthony, i think that is what they r. i had them too, when i was psychotic in 1996 and 1997. the voice kept commenting on what i was doing. like "look at her, she's folding her clothes now. she's making the bed" etc.
my running commentary stopped once a started treatment on anti-psychotics, and have never returned since 1997.
thanks to God and the medications.
did u tell ur psychiatrist about them? perhaps they could be controlled for u too, anthony.
keep us posted

I used to have a running comentary going on in my head, My mind sometimes now will start to do it and it's very upsetting especially when I think my mind can be read. It often makes comments on its own that don't seem to be mine or appropriate at ALL !!! I have been having this recently at a coffee shop I visit frequently w/ my girlfriend, I guess I'll have to try another shop. |

Anthony, I really believe that you should see a psychiatrist. Although I've never heard "voices" before, you sound like you do hear them. I've seen things that shouldn't and couldn't possibly have happened. I've seen my pharmacist go from one end of the pharmacy and then suddenly appear somewhere else far away. I know that it was a visual hallucination because she couldn't possibly have gone to the other end without going through the little gate and I was standing right in front of the gate. I looked up - she was standing in the back and then looked down for a couple of seconds and she was far behind me in the front of the pharmacy entrance. I tell ya, it freaked the s*** out of me. I also saw my dad go from one end of the street to a house that was quite far away all within seconds. Now, I'm not trying to say that you'll experience this, only that people with schizophrenia have both similar and disimilar experiences. However, that being said, I think that if you hear "voices" or see "things", that automatically is schizophrenia. One thing about schizophrenia is that if you don't treat it as soon as possible, more symptoms can appear. Please see a psychiatrist right away! Talk to you soon, Cindy |

Thanks all for the replies. I'm sorry it took so long to respond back. I've been pretty busy lately.

Intersting. I experience similiar things most of the time, but they have been around for quite some time. I would say more than a decade or so now.

I was diagnosed with Schizotypal Personality Disorder back in 1992. The doctor then told me that I would probably be a schizophrenic by the time I'm 30. Well I've reached that point and a few more years besides. I think there may be more to this than just one or the other. People also think that I have Borderline Personality Disorder. In any case the process will hopefully start again (diagnostic that is) starting next week. He is a psychologist (PhD), but was highly refered to me as an expert in diagnosis. Hopefully with his help and a referal to a psychiatrist in my area I will begin to solve some of these problems. Direct calls to some psychiatrists at ramdom seemed kinda weird. It was like some made it seem like they could treat anything and others wanted nothing to do with a potential schizophrenic or Borderline or both.
Loved ones and my bad habits that I can see (like alcohol) have finally pushed me to the point that I know I need to do something. I've grown increasingly paranoid and isolated as well.
Thanks for your input on the voice thing and I welcome any other advice you may have even if I am slow to reply sometimes.
Anthony
