Dear Members,
I want to warn our community that the multi-vitamin "therapy", EmpowerPlus (sold by "TrueHope") is a medical fraud.
The Canadian government is seizing shipments of EmpowerPlus, since it is in violation of Health Canada regulations. Specifically, EmpowerPlus has incorrectly stated that it is a treatment for Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and Attention Deficit Disorder.
In Vancouver, a young man recently went on EmpowerPlus, was told by TrueHope to stop all his antipsychotic medication, and three weeks later murdered his father and severely injured his mother.
When police checked his room, the only medication they found was EmpowerPlus - thus this young man had stopped all of his antipsychotic medication.
I personally know of another man, a Mood Disorders Association board member, who went on EmpowerPlus and stopped his Bipolar I Disorder medications. He was psychiatrically hospitalized one month later.
I have reviewed all the "research" that TrueHope lists on their website, and this research is extremely flawed. None of this research would meet the scientific standards required for licensing of a new treatment for mental illness.
There wasn't one randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study in all of TrueHope's research. Yet such randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trials are the only type of trials acceptable to Health Canada for licensing of any new medication.
EmpowerPlus, and its insistence that patients stop all their psychiatric medications, is worse than a medical fraud. It is killing people.
