Clozapine has helped me in many ways, but drooling is a problem, especially at night. Saliva soaks my hair, pillow, bed linens, mattress, and clothing. If I don't take a shower in the morning and launder everything daily, an unpleasant odor fills my bedroom and people don't want to be near me. I've tried putting a towel on the pillow, but it is not very effective.
I've discussed drugs for controlling drool with my psychiatrist, but I don't like the potential side-effects.
A friend recommended that I use an absorbent pad (a disposable newborn diaper works for me) and hold it in place with a balaclava or "racing head sock." The skin problems on my face (rash, acne, and large infected lesions) have cleared up and I wake up dry.
When I told my psychiatrist about this, she said it is a "brilliant solution."
Has anyone else tried this?
