Quetiapine is an antipsychotic medication licenced for the treatment of Schizophrenia. It is also licenced for the acute treatment of mania or mixed episodes of Bipolar I Disorder. It is used for maintenance treatment of Bipolar I Disorder (but there is little research supporting this). Quetiapine often causes weight gain, and there is a FDA warning that it increases the risk of diabetes mellitus. |

My experience of 2 years of quetiapine is that I have put on about 15 kg since - at the moment I am pregnant and I am not using it-However, I must admit I miss the confidence in character I had after taking it. Now I am a bit more insecure and worried about what people think etc. Overall it worked well for me (I had mild sz) and improved my way of thinking- not to worry so much. |

Seroquel makes me groggy when i wake up, and i have reduced the amount to the very least it takes for me to sleep and not be awakened by horrific nightmares/hallucinations/psychoses. I can also sleep every single night without which i would go days, 4-5 generally. I'll take the trade-off for a couple hours of groggy, i've tried others, like geodon, and it made the psychoses worse. |

I have not gained much weight. I was hovering between 95-100 lbs after my last episode, from poor diet and rest and self care and severely needed what weight I did gain which was about ten pounds. (I am five foot five) But I know it was the drug that caused me to gain the weight I did. I haven't gained any weight since that gain, two years ago. I ate better once on the drug so that might have helped but still sort of ate like a bird because antipsychotics have a weird habit of upsetting my stomach. Is that normal?
Also Bridy, I know what you're saying about the grogginess. I feel very spaced out and heavy-headed when I wake in the mornings (I am on the 200 mgs - the white round ones) I also find I space out pretty regularly during the day and feel very sort of flat on them. like I have sometimes left my own mind behind and am running on this weird... I want to say autopilot but it's not quite that. Its hard to explain.
But hey. This is the best drug I have been on yet. Once I adjusted, the grogginess started to get better. It isn't gone and some days are groggier than others but it's not like before, where i felt thick and swolen in my head every day, most of the day sometimes. I get twitchy sometimes but I wonder if that didn't happen because of the other meds i have been on. Honestly, I just don't know and odn't even know what it is. I don't like to talk to my pdoc about it because I'm afraid she will think that it's just an excuse for me to again avoid m y meds ( because I spent a lot of time trying not being med compliant. She doesn't trust me yet i'm sure) I have mentioned it but don't know much yet.
Anyway, I don't know if I'd say I LIKE seroquel but it's definitely the best of the drugs I've tried so far. Again, that is me. Each drug is different for different people.

My son has just been put on Seroquel(Quetiapine).I have researched a bit on this new drug and found some information:http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s3647-s-SEROQUEL.aspx. I want to know if it is ok for a teenager to be taking this medication. Hopefully there wont be any unwanted effects on his health. So far his weight seems to be stable, no change at all. But I did notice he is a bit groggy at times after taking his medics. Any opinion would be welcomed. |

Hi Simpleton, like the nick name by the way. Hope your son is or will be doing well. To get to the point I used to be on Seroquel. The doctors put me on it while I had a stay in the hospital and when I got out it did the opposite to me or my system. I mean it really wired me up tremendously but I was also on Lexapro at the time. Good luck and have faith! |

I am using Seroquel now for one year. I have to take 600 mg per a day. 200 mg in the morning and 400 mg in the evening. It helps me, but i don't really know if this dose is correct. Well i still am giving some kinds of bad feelings, but it's not so critical. I will tell this to my psychiatrist next time. |
