Although my psydoc is adamant that I am too disabled to work, I have been told in the past I might be able to do a wee bit voluntary work. Back in the late nineties I was trying to help out in the CND office, but I ended up making a cod of most of the tasks I was set. In the ealy noughties I applied for voluntary work down the local Oxfam shop but I was knocked back (I think it was because I mentioned my diagnosis of Sz, they said it was because they didn't know enough about clothes) Has anyone else had experience of voluntary work or trying to apply for it?

Yes, Jonathan I have applied for voluntary work. It was with my ex-doctor. I get paid to work on this site and post replies to people. It is just such an awesome voulunter work , ideal for me.
It's so commendable to that you would want to volunteer even though you are struggling with negative symtpoms right now. Best of luck.
Is there an area of interest where you could offer your experise on a topic for example if you are really into books you could vounteer at a bookstore?
Just a thought. |

Oxfam are an organisation I really believe in heavily and I have given quite a lot of money to in the past (and bought a lot of books too. I'd buy a lot of clothes too, if they would fit me) I love to volunteer in our local Oxfam shop to do the books, or go to the specialist OXfam book shop in Glasgow's west end, I love to work there. I also love Books. I think books are the soul of civilization.
Greenpeace are an organisation I have been a bit involved with in the past, more as political activism rather than voluntary work. I was a member of the organisation for a few years, and I attended one of their meetings. I suppose I would like to help out with them too.

I'm vaguely trying to volunteer with the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, in their Partners 4 Progress program.
Also, the late Wesley Willis also managed to find employment doing his music and drawings; I hope that might be of some hope/inspiration/guidance for you.
