We have recently had the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech and we have to ask the question has the dream been realised. I think the short answer to this is no, but there has been progress towards it. There is still substantial discrimination against blacks and other minority races particularly in the area of employment/work. I would like a black or Asian friend but there aren't many around my bit of Glasgow. I do, however, notice that when I travel through poorer parts of parts of Glasgow on the bus, there are many more blacks from these areas!
I put a picture of Martin Luther King on my wall partly to combat racism within myself, as during the 1992 psychosis I thought Nyissa (from one of David Eddings fantasy worlds) represented black Africa. This was terrible racism on my part. I also remember making some terrible racist remarks as a young man.
Another of Martin Luther King's statements that I find inspirational is "We have guided missiles and misguided men" which I regard as definitely true over Iraq and Vietnam, if not as definitely true over Afghanistan, the current situation in Syria and the NATO interventions in 1990s Yugoslavia. I also regard it as true over Britain Trident nuclear missiles.

Some people have argued that the reason that Blacks are poorer in USA and UK (on average)and get less good jobs is because they don't work as hard or even that they are less intelligent. I don't believe that for a minute.
Another interesting (but sad) fact is blacks are more likely to get diagnosed with schizophrenia, as they are genuinely persecuted more and psychiatrist mistake this persecution as not real and as paranoia, when in fact people really are out to get them!
At the same time it must be said that there is nothing wrong with being white and reverse racism is wrong too, though I think in the USA and UK reverse racism is less common than racism against blacks to be honest.
