Please understand, as I do, that E-pea speaks of Gilko B. as a "vitamin" in the metaphorical sense. Gilko B. is a whole herbal preparation, that is, as I understand it, and yes, I understand, it does seem to have potent psychoactive properties.
As I understand it, a major issue with herbal preparations is standardization of dosage. I certainly would look very hard at who is manufacturing whatever it is that I am swallowing.

Hi carlos711,
I had short-term memory loss during my recovery phase, and to some extent I still have poorer-than-average short-term memory. It's possible to improve your memory with some visual/spatial memory games, such as card games and board games. That makes it fun and helpful, not to mention the bonding you'd get with your family/friends.
I would play with someone you feel safe with though; don't get into gambling--it can lead to terrible issues in your private and financial life. If you play cards or board games, play with friends and family whom you trust. Or if you're online, google "memory games" sites that are free. Crosswords do for the brain what a good 10 minute jog does to the body, for me.
When you get to school, remember that you're going to be relearning habits and ways of processing information that your illness has somehow erased or made latent. You'll be relearning a lot of things like how to read and write, how to analyze and how to make friends.
It took me 8 years to get my undergraduate degree and I am happy I did it. It is defintely worth it.

hi carlos711, my pdoc says that gingko doesn't work for memory, at least in the latest study for Alzheimer's patients. but he will check later what it's effects r for us szs. i've personally been on a whole bottle of ginkgo and it didn't do anything for me. my memory hasn't improved one bit. i hope that the drug companies r working on something that might benefit us, b/c for me this is one of the most troubling residual symptom i still have from my sz. the other is the perplexity attacks.

First off make sure you let the university or college know of your memory problems. I have had problems all my life with memory retention and learning disabilities. I wound up with a grade 7 education in all areas but languages when they tested me at the college. They will help you find your strong skills and help you find a direction to steer your schooling in. Most will also guide you to any upgrading for skills that are lacking but are of a serious interest to you for your chosen path. Measures will also be taken to help you overcome memory problems, for me it turned out to be association, I have to associate everything to one word that describes it. An example would be the 4 P's of marketing and the 4 p's of tourism specific marketing, I associated them with microsoft and walmart (tourism/microsoft-People, in a Place, Packaging, the Programming and general/walmart- Products, on Promotion, in a Place, for a Price) It seems silly but really helped me overcome my memory problems.
