I used marijuana for 4 years, in my late teens, smoking three to four joints a day. They say it is innocuous, and causes no damage, but the truth is that weed has a 250% and 350% probability rate in causing and amplifying mental disorders, namely bipolar and schizophrenia, respectively, than persons who abstain from it. Use of harder drugs multiply this effect. I would like to think, blameless, that my breakdown and subsequent collapse into schizoaffective was due to ingrained genetic problems and a head concussion, but the truth is, even though I may have a 'brain-make-up' more susceptible to mental disorder, the drugs, in the end, caused the psychosis. So there is an element of probability and responsibility, things I can't get away from, and I am reminded of Johnny Cash's song about ' the reckless ones whose bad trips left them cold,' in the song 'The Man in Black.' Tough cards destiny has dealt me with. I know some of you may laugh at this, like- ' Dude- weed or LSD are harmless, and do not cause anything major problem,' but that is untrue to scientific research......marihuana causes brain damage, and affects critical thinking and decision making, and kills off neurons, and skews off synaptic function, and damages and reduces brain mass, besides triggering synapses into 'confusion,' like a chaotic stream of thoughts that inevitably lead to psychosis.....there is also the perennial problem of loss of I.Q. and memory problems. Furthermore, any use of weed on a routine basis will, sooner or later, affect brain function, mildly or severely... |
