Changes In Personality That Can Occur With Schizophrenia
Schizoid and Paranoid Personality Traits
Often there are subtle changes in personality that occur with schizophrenia. In fact, these subtle changes in personality can often be the first symptom of what later will develop into schizophrenia.
The two most common changes in personality with schizophrenia are the development of schizoid or paranoid personality traits.
Not everyone with these personality traits later develops schizophrenia. However, many individuals with schizophrenia do develop these changes in personality.

- Appears indifferent to either praise or criticism of others.
(E.g., "When I'm praised or criticized I don't show others my reaction.")
- Little interest in having sexual experiences with another person (taking into account age).
(E.g., "I have little or no desire to have sex with anyone.")
- Almost always chooses solitary activities.

(E.g., "I don't need a friend to be happy.")
