I am doing quite well now and I don't want to lose that. So when I see heartbreaking stories on the national TV news, I must ask, "Do I care?" and "What could I do to help?" I am not affected emotionally by the news, but I just wonder these questions.

I think you can help in your grassroots, local community. IMHO there's not much we can do about politics. Or even international politics. The 'players,' the 'mover-and-shakers,' will respond to the 'Authority' of a 'Higher Law,' certainly. There is a proverb, Muslim in origin, that says: 'the people who followed you,' it asks - 'how do you respond for them?' It is a great weight and responsibility, and many so-called leaders take this principle very, very lightly - vanity, as they say - I wonder if these people in power estimate what they carry on their backs as socio-political responsibility. IMHO I don't think they care, and are just on it for the 'ego-trip.' ' Absolute power corrupts absolutely.' - Lord Acton
I guess we all do care, but there seems to be little we can do 'to set it right.' The best impact we can have is in our immediate area or social circle. |
