Feel down? For example, if you drink coffee in the morning, go out for a cup of coffee. They say the best therapist is a friend with whom you can partake a cup. Lonely? O.K. - that's alright too. Just to go out and see random people. There is really no reason to stay home in the morning - skip to the local coffee shop or diner. Get fancy - have a cappuccino or an expresso. They say the only normal thing these days with coffee houses is someone actually just having coffee, pure and simple. No computers, no cell phones, nothing - not even newspapers. Say to yourself - 'I am the random nut-job sitting quietly having a latte in a vast room....lol.' Let your imagination run - maybe it's tea you're craving, maybe it's a milkshake, maybe it's a smoothie...but by all means don't fix it at home - go out for it. I can guarantee you it will improve your mood.
Get a journal. Write your thoughts and emotions down. Do not leave anything out. Quick exercise - without taking your pen from the notepad, scribble whatever comes to mind, writing in a free flow of consciousness, for 5 minutes. It is a creative brainstorm. Even though your thoughts may be fast-paced and non-sensical at all, write away, without putting the pen down, and leaving nothing out. A few days later, go over, carefully, what you wrote - you may have some insights. Subconscious material seeps through.....
Something I did as a loner when I was deeply depressed was forcing myself to go to the local movie theater. Go right on ahead, see two or three - sessions of different films. This will get your mind out of the pain.
Another thing - first inertia hits - but force yourself to go out for a walk. No obligations, appointments, compromises - just walking for walking's sake. Plan a new route everyday, so it doesn't get boring. Look outside yourself, beyond yourself - do not peer in - but outward....... You may even stumble into something you never noticed before - maybe you could take a camera with you.
You need some time out? Let your employer know this!!! By all means! It's time for some 'you' time, where also you do not need to vegetate in front of the stereo, computer, or T.V. There are so many beautiful things to run into - especially if you but try to keep your perspective open, and a free mind. Do not sit in the house all day, just sulking and feeling down-and-out......every day is a new chance for you to discover what's out there!
Join a yoga meditation group, or participate in a group therapy. This latter will help you understand reality from different perspectives. Yoga is great for synchronizing the mind to a different 'vibe' altogether, and for finding peace and tranquility......
I'll continue posting - but these are a few of the things that come to my mind........ |
