Today offered another wake to which I didn't go.
Schizophrenics seem to have a life expectancy of about 51 years. At least, so many of my age peer friends are dead now. I'm 57. I have taken the Orthomolecular approach to schizophrenia. I am still seen in the welfare clinics because I cannot support myself. The workers there do recognize that I'm somehow different, but they don't choose to look into the why of it. Actually, earlier, is seven hospitalizations covering nearly 22 months of my life, I established that I have no slight case of schizophrenia. Nobody wants to know how I did it, making even me think I didn't do anything that spectacular. I have all my hair, and I have all 28 teeth. My skin and finger nails are gorgeous. But even to myself, I'm seen as nuts. Have you ever seen little, tiny, 240 pound women? There are lots of them in the mental health system. My friend Janey was one. She was five years younger than myself, and predictably, long ago, she died. Janey's Mom was convinced that Orthomolecular Treatment would save schizophrenics, and Janey's Mom finally got the money together and sent Janey to the special "EarthHouse" in New Jersey. Janey spent nine months there, and she didn't like it. They didn't make her sane, and actually, the schizophrenia seemed no better to Janey's perceptions. But Janey did lose 100 pounds, and she came back saying to me, "I never want to be fat again." For the next fifteen years of her short life, she did hold the old "weight proportionate to height" standard. As far as I'm concerned, medicine in general, and Orthomolecular Medicine in particular, sold me a bill of goods. They promise you this, and they give you that. Jayster

My nutritionist wants me to buy a bottle of fish oil and take it by tablespoon. Probably he wants me to do it that way to save me money. That's slightly too organic for me.
I take capsules of fish oil concentrate from a suppler called "pure encapsulations". The bottle says that each capsule is ten Calories and contains 10 i.u. of Vitamin E. The bottle says the fish oil comes from anchovies and sardines and provides EPA 300 mg and DHA 200 mg.
What I take
Nutrient Dose Breakfast Lunch Dinner
Acetyl-l-Carnitine 500 mg. upon arising
Optimum Ultracap (Multi from Eclectic Institute) Capsule 2 2 2
Super EPA-500 (Fish oil Bronson) Capsule 4 4 4
Calcium Apatite (Metagenics) 1,000 mg. 1 1 1
Magnesium Citrate (Bronson) 100 mg. 2 1 2
Zinc (Bronson) 60 mg. 1
Niacin (Bronson) 250 mg. 2 1 2
B-6 (Bronson) 100 mg. 1
Phosphatidyl Choline 1,000 mg. Capsule 1 1
Phosphatidylserine 100 mg. capsule 2 2
Esterol (ARG) Capsule 2 2 2
Dr. Dophilus (Friendly bacteria) Capsule 1
Vitamin C (Bronson) 1,000 mg. 3 2 2
CoQ10 200mg. 2 2
L-Tryptophan 500 mg. upon retiring
(Plus my trilafon and wellbutrin and several PRNs)

I'm sorry to hear about your friend Jayster. I've lost someone I love because of mental illness as well. It's a hard thing to cope with, it must be for you with so many friends gone. My heart goes out to you.
Born in the 80's, grew up in the 90's, lost my mind at the Millenium. |
