My best non drug therapy is Aikido, it was not perscribed for me I found it out myself. Though not actualy a competative sport it froces the person to engage the whole mind and body and spirit to work as one. This produces a sense of wholeness, which for me only lasts as long as I am doing the activity, hence even though training can feel uncomfortable, aching muscles, fear, ect..I keep going to training, time and time again, I can never give it up. I think these types of "gentle" martial arts like aikido and ti chi should be more utilized in the treatment of people with MI. One of my tutors grew up with and still had ADHD, he is a 3rd Dan master, he said it saved him and keeps the crazyness out of his life. |
