yeah, I think htat consciousness continues after death. For me things are really tricky, becasue while I FEEL like giving up, and I really Want to die sometimes, I am a theist. I believe not only in God, but that my life personally is directed by God (this is not true of everyone in the specific sense, according to my beliefs. You have to want it), so not only would I have to answer for my irresponsibility in giving up, most likely any attempt I made to die would most likely fail, leaving me in worse shape than before. I once knew a guy who tried to hang himself, and almost suceeded. at the last second his family burst down the door. He will never be completely okay. It's just not worth the risk.

To answer your question, though, heaven and hell are not what many people say. Think of Heaven as a country. In it there is a capitol city, also called Heaven. God hangs out there. a ways outside the city is where you go if you don't make an effort to know God. It sucks, not because it's a terrible place, but becasue when you can SEE God, adn you can't be close to Him, it sux. You feel like "Man, I was TOLD, and everything. Why didn't I jsut believe it then?"
And there is a reason to. Despite teh fact that you will know after death that there is a God, and that He created teh Universe, and has a perfect plan in which everything works out like it's supposed to, it's better to believe now, and I will tell you why.
You see, this is known as the 'Age of Grace'. That means that the stuff we do, the boneheaded mistakes we make, and teh ways in which we destroy billions of lives and whole eco-systems and the like, are all easily forgiven becasue we are ignorant. After death we will know everything, but it will still be really hard to not do terrible things, and there we have no excuse. ANyway, if you get to know God now, you get to hang out in the capitol city, and that's awesome. And if you are really good here you get to go to the people you love who are not in teh capitol and help them.
This loses a bit in translation, but it's all according to the Bible

Thats so true matt, ofcourse no one can know for sure, afterall the only thing linking christianity to fact is a 2000 year old book and who knows weather the author was himself schizophrenic, how can we be sure any of it happened and it wasnt all just the scribblings of a madman??

I and a few of my friends have had flash backs to a previous existence on this planet hundreds of years ago. Personally I had a dream about being around before there was sex so that was a long time ago in our years but apparently in the afterlife, time is completely different to it is here, so a hundred years could be the blink of an eye over there, similarly forever is just a minute to God. There are loads of accounts of people coming back to this side telling us what the afterlife is like, check out Victor Zamitz, people could do with listening. |
