is it possible to get schizophrenia after usinf long period cannabis?does schizophrenia make peole violent?
i appreciate any answer, i am lost |

Hello kmsya,
I don't know the scientific answer but I have my own beliefs.. I believe that the prolonged use of psychedellics can def bring out latened psychosis. I never had any symptoms other then some mild depression/anxiety untill I started smoking pot and dropping acid in my early teens. but it doesn't seem to do this to everyone. |

Hey guys,
You have to have some kind of predisposition towards Schizophrenia but Marijuana will cause schizophrenia in people who are already vulnerable, so if you have a family history or if you're just that lucky you can end up with schizophrenia from doing dope, of course you usually have to be chronic for a while but that's how pot acts on the brain it increases the flow of dopamine in your brain which is also the chemical which is imbalanced in schizophrenics.
If you regularly abused drugs in your teens your chances of geting schizophrenia go up, same as if you abuse drugs as an adult.
The global statistical average is 1% of the world's population will develop schizophrenia.
This illness can make you violent, particularly if you suffer delusions and hallucinations that provoke a violent reaction: for example voices telling you to hurt yourself or others, false beliefs that you need to kill or hurt people around you. Not everyone with schizophrenia will act on these impulses but the chances are good that they might particularly if the illness remains untreated.
If you or anyone you know is suffering from a psychotic drug reaction you should get advice from a doctor you know and trust.

My doctor told me that smoking pot every day could make my schizophrenia worse. I do think its a stretch to say that pot smoking causes it though. I'm not familiar with the latest studies.
I am not a violent person. My parents always taught me to keep my hands to myself. However, the emotions are expressed through the physical body and biology. Under stress, I could snap. It has happened in the past (I've lived with the illness 20 + years) that there were times when I became abusive to others. they have been few and far between. I know every one of thoose situations too. More often I have been the victim of violent crime.
The kind of person you are in your heart and your upbringing have alot to do with how you express yourself. Also I have had many years of stability, a mild case to begin with, and I have understood and keep away from stressors that could cause me to become disorganized or manic. |

well, i smoked weed for over 25 years until i got allergic to it about 7 years ago, my doc said that was probably a contributing factor , also my mom had it too , i didn't start to get symptoms of SZ until i was 50, so weed was probably a big factor seing as how i got SZ so late in life , as for violence , i have always been a non-violent person, only getting into fights as a last resort , even my voices were non violent, warning me of non existent dangers , and i had more of the paranoid symtoms , thinking everyone was reporting my activities , making me want to stay away from everyone , each person is different tho, and i can see how SZ could make some people with a penchant for violence become violent , however , i never did.
there is a fine line between genius and insanity , if you can learn to walk the line , you can rule the world .unfortunately i keep falling into the insanity side |
