Well, I did it. I e-mailed the Atlanta rep. Long drawn out but very detailed....

Hi Nancy,
I can only imagine the courage it took to send the email. It must feel like you are opening up the flood gates and have no idea what to expect. It might be scary at first- having to open up about the feelings and thoughts you have kept hidden for so long, but it will get easier. I care about you too Nancy- when you see a loved one dealing with this illness it gives you so much compassion for others going through the same. Don't back down now, keep going hon.

Your encouraging words mean alot to me. I am sitting on pins and needles waiting on her reply, but it has only been a day. She might not even have worked yesterday. I threw her ALOT of infomation so we will see what happens. I am bound to follow whatever advice she offers.

Well, it is very nerve-wracking waiting on a reply.
The doubts set in. Did I say the wrong things? Did she even get the e-mail? it is torture waiting on someone to respond when I have actually gotten up the nerve to write finally.
I know it takes time. *sigh*

It has been two days and I still have no reply.
Logically, I would like to think she is scouting out doctors in my area in order to present me with options....this must take time....
my mind is telling me I am not going to hear from her because I am not worth it. She read my e-mail had a good laugh and hit the delete. I am sick of checking my e-mail. every time I see the empty in box I get more depressed.
I was brutally honest about myself in this e-mail. I exposed myself to such a degree, that I can't help but believe she thinks it is hopeless and why bother...
I know I deserve to get better, but for me to ask for help (I never ask for anything) and it not to be forthcoming is very frustrating.

Nancy, First off hooray for you for reaching out. That takes guts and Im glad you did it.
2nd of all, if you are going to rely on email to seek help then you must be patient. Your email is right there along with others and yours will be read in due order.
If you want an immediate answer then I suggest you call the crisis line and just ask for a dr in your area. You do not need to tell them anything else.
Im proud that you have taken this step. Please do not get discouraged so easily.

You are right Creel, I know.... patience....I opted to use e-mail, because it is easier to open up in this manner. I know I need to be patient, it is just so tough.

I still check my e-mail every few hours.... I am not sweating it anymore.
Whatever happens, happens. Either I will get a response or I won't.
Even if I don't, I still may one day have the courage to just call a doctor, make an appointment, show up, tell her I am crazy and addicted. Sure.... Like that will happen...

still no response from NAMI....I choose to believe they never rec'd the e-mail. I bared my soul to them...if they ignored that, then who needs them..
I wrote another short e-mail asking if they rec'd my first letter....we will see....

I hope they have contacted you by now. If not, then you must find another way. Please do not give up. I hoped this would have worked out, and it still might, but I will not say this delay is typical. if worse comes to worse, open the phone book and throw a dart. Please take some comfort in that there are people who share your pain and understand what you are going through. People with issues and people with not so many issues. You should also remember there are some worse off than you and their journey through life should be an inspiration to all of us. Either way, we should take it as it is and strive to move forward, otherwise we are standing still. I do not know what else to say except that I am glad to have been a part of your journey. Please keep me posted.

Well it has been a LONG time coming. I finally got the courage to get professional help.
After months and months of being housebound, I screwed up my courage along with the help of my daughter and walked right into the ER and asked for help. There is a very nice facility affiliated with the county hospital and I was able to get treatment and referrals to both a psychiatrist and psychologist for counseling after a short stay of 4 days.
Although they assure me it will get worse before it gets better, I am ready to do the work and fight for my right to be healthy and symptom free.
The Meds  already seem to be stabilizing some of my symptoms. I am optimistic and hope it only gets better from here

Hello Nancy. Long time no chat. Soon after my last post here, a transformer blew in front of my house and took the computer with it
:( By the time I got my computer back I had no idea what this website address was. I came across it a few months ago and was quite surprised by the changes to the site. It took a while but I finally found our posts. Well, I just wanted to drop in and say hey. Hope all is well and I hope you have been able to get what you need. I'll check back here and see if you are still around.

Nancy, I'm sorry but I just read your last post Hooray for you. I am so happy/proud/inspired/ to know you. The first step is the worst but once it is done the second is easier. Hope things are still going well. I will check back. :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I was in the neighborhood and thought I would stop by and say hello. Any updates? Hope all is well and the new year gives you pleanty of oppurtinities. I'll stop by from time to time.
