Hello there I found the site you posted very interesting. scz is formed in the mothers womb and can be caused by any stressors she is affected by during pregnacy.Lack of proper nutrition, trauma etc. it then rears its head later on in life,17-19 usually when the child experiences any type of the above. Thanks for your input...Pat

My mother did not have any complications at my birth either. However, I did once hit my head really hard on cement. It was a really hot afternoon and my friend and I went to go get some food. As we were coming back I started to feel very dizzy. Then as we went into her house I fainted. I hit the back of my head on some tiles and when I woke up a couple of minutes later, my head hurt so much. My parents still think that it was this trauma to my head that caused the schizoaffective disorder. I don't know about this. I've never heard anything like this before. What do you guys think? Thanks, Cindy |

I believe it. I'm not entirely sure what the stress was, exactly, but my mom has told me that her pregnancy with me was complicated to the point of almost being a miscarriage and she had to spend the last month or so in bed. I've always chalked up my mental problems (like my Aspergers) up to that.

I'm worried I gave it to my son. I didn't eat right during pregnancy, I took the prenatal I didn't need to eat. I did eat but not regularly. I gained weight anyway, towards the end I ate a lot of frozen yougurt (1/2 gallon in 3 days). My doctor told me to quit lifting weights, I pretty much haven't done it since.
My mom had toxema with me, disobeyed the doctor with the excuse "I'm pregnant I'll eat whatever I want." She also shocked herself with while using the vacuum to clean the car, she felt me turn. She thought I'd be still born she said because it was a jolt. She was told not to have more kids, my pregnancy/delivery was difficult. I'm so glad she had my brother I'd really be in trouble these days if it wasn't for him.

I saw a documentary on this subject on PBS or Google Video. Famine, war, natural disasters, it is theorized, can leave their mark on DNA. In other words trauma can be a cause of scz and other diseases whether it happens before or after birth.
If you are born with a compromised immunity and are subjected to stress or abuse over long periods of time combined with untreated infections, malabsorbtion, depleted stress hormones, anxiety, the end result is something given the name schizophrenia. They are different for each individual.
You will be able to treat symptoms but you will never, never cure scz by treating it exclusively as a mental condition. This is not just speculation on my part. I first saw the above mentioned by a mainstream p-doc. He said that scz was probably a combination of factors(?)and not any single condition. IMO the causes are systemic and the results(scz)further reinforce the causes and worsen them systemically over time.
