Do not be a label!
Our first impressions of a diagnostic of schizophrenia is mind-shattering, and causes a lot of panic and fear.....it is confusing, and mind-boggling, and makes us feel cast away......O.K. - so you are the 'different' one from the tribe, but you are 'tribe' nonetheless........
Remember the saying from the book Dune: 'Fear is the mind-killer......'
The worst thing about schizophrenia is not the ailment itself, but all its social connotations...the world is inviting you to face it, despite the 'label,' the 'stigma,' the misunderstanding...face reality head-on......
You are not measured by society, and your insanity - or 'sanity,' you know it - everyone carries some of it on their backs! You are probably saner than most people, if they were willing to admit it!!!
But there is stigma also. There is distancing from the community. There is isolation.
But do not fear: the Native Americans had a tradition to bring the 'different' ones into their fold...and remember- modern day society is so isolationist!!! It's hard to have a voice when everyone seems to be out there for themselves!!!!
But be true to yourself: 'Schizophrenia? Bring it on! I'll face it! Nothing is going to bring me down!' Do not let a social parameter dictate who you have to be!
Know that mental illness only makes you more human and susceptible.....oh, so human, and your fragility will be tomorrow the blessing in you........
So you face a challenge. O.K. But it was given to you because you have the strength to confront it! Nothing is brought to you that you cannot overcome!!! Forget labels. Forget social classifications. Be yourself, truly! And foremost - do not fear. |
